ZIPLINE LOVER · THE WORLD FROM THE TREETOPS
Step off the platform. The forest does the rest.
Reviews of the best zipline and canopy tours on earth, treetop by treetop. Costa Rica’s cloud forest, the Phuket jungle, Punta Cana’s mountain cables, the gorges of Vang Vieng and the rice-terrace flights over Ubud. We sort through every operator so you clip into the right one.
Worth the airfare
Three flights that belong to one forest and nowhere else.
You can clip onto a cable almost anywhere now. But the mist over the Monteverde cloud forest, the gorge crossings at Vang Vieng, and the long courses high above the Phuket jungle happen in these places and nowhere else on earth.
Costa Rica
The Cloud Forest Where It All Began
Costa Rica didn’t just adopt the zipline, it invented the canopy tour: biologists strung the first cables through Monteverde to study the treetops, and the whole world copied them. You ride above the mist where the cloud forest meets the sky, cross suspension bridges level with the canopy, then fly the long open spans over the green. Sloths, toucans and the original adrenaline, all in one morning.

Riviera Maya
Over the Jungle and Into a Cenote
The adventure parks behind Tulum and Playa del Carmen do something you will not find anywhere else: the zipline ends with a splash. You fly platform to platform over dense Yucatan jungle, then the last line drops you straight toward an open cenote, the round limestone sinkhole the Maya held sacred. Unclip, swim in the cool blue water, and climb out to do it again.

Hawaii
Across the Rainforest Gulches of Maui
Maui strings its longest cables over the deep green gulches and waterfalls of the West Maui mountains and the Haleakala slopes. You launch with the Pacific glittering on the horizon, ride dual lines so you can race a friend, valleys and streams dropping away beneath the trolley. Some courses run well over a mile of cable in total: the most scenic flights in the United States.

The classics
The World’s Most Popular Zipline Tours
Punta Cana, Phuket, Puerto Vallarta, Vang Vieng, Ubud. The canopy courses and mega-zips travellers reach for first, in the forests and gorges they most want to fly.
Where to clip in
Pick your forest.
Costa Rica for the cloud forest where it all began. Thailand for big jungle courses. Mexico for cenote zips, the Dominican highlands for mountain cables, Laos for gorge crossings, Bali for rice-terrace flights. Each destination, with the runs it does best.
Which kind of day
What kind of flight are you after?
The kind of course matters as much as the destination. Three ways to fly, depending on your nerve and what you want from the canopy: a gentle glide, a full jungle circuit, or a flat-out mega-zip.
The cradle of the canopy tour
Costa Rica started all of this.
Biologists strung the first canopy cables through Monteverde to reach the treetops, and the zipline as the world knows it was born. Today the cloud forest is laced with lines and sky-bridges: you fly through the mist where the forest meets the sky, spot sloths and toucans below, then open up on the long Superman spans over Arenal and the Pacific slopes. The original, and still one of the best.

The Caribbean’s biggest canopy country.
No single place on the site is busier than Punta Cana, where the Anamuya mountains rise behind the resorts and the cables run line after line down the hillside, some of the longest in the Caribbean. Up the coast at Puerto Plata the runs drop toward the sea, and the whole island pairs flights with buggies, cenotes and beach time. A first canopy for thousands every week, and a thrill for the seasoned.

The fear, then the grin. Every single time.
A great canopy tour is never just the view. It is the long pause on the first platform, the guide who clips your trolley on and says go, and the half-second of pure nerve before the forest starts rushing past underneath. By the third line the fear is gone and you are whooping. You come back grinning, a little braver, already asking which course is next.

Southeast Asia flies between the karst.
Cables strung between the limestone towers of Vang Vieng with the river crawling far below, big multi-platform courses high over the Phuket rainforest, and gentle flights across the green river gorges of Ubud. The backdrops here are like nowhere else: jungle, karst and paddy instead of cliffs, with local guides who know every launch and landing.

By intensity
How much air do you want under you?
Some flights are a gentle glide a nervous first-timer will love. Some are a full morning of jungle lines and rope bridges. And some are a single gut-dropping mega-zip across a gorge. Pick your nerve, we will point you at the course.
Easy does it
Glide over the green, gently.Short, scenic cables a family can do together: low and slow over a river valley or rice terrace, more float than freefall, the kind of first flight that turns the nervous into believers.
Full canopy circuit
String a dozen lines together.A morning of platform-to-platform flying through real jungle: longer spans, a few rope bridges, maybe a rappel and a waterfall swim, with guides who clip you on and send you off line after line.
White-knuckle
Step off into the big air.The long, fast, high stuff: cables strung clear across a gorge, a launch that drops your stomach, and the kind of speed and exposure you plan a whole trip around and talk about for years.
Jungle, cenotes and big parks
Mexico hides its zips in the jungle.
Along the Riviera Maya around Tulum and Playa del Carmen, the big adventure parks string ziplines over the jungle and straight across open cenotes, often bundled with a swim in the cave pool and an ATV trail. Over on the Pacific side, Puerto Vallarta sends lines down the Sierra Madre above the Los Veranos river. Half-day blast or a full jungle circuit, Mexico packs the most variety on the site.
